👀 Monica Barbaro and Timothée Chalamet portrayed Joan Báez and Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. They’re in the wrong town. They should be in Greenwich Village with us, hanging out, drinking beer and stepping up to the mic. No re-takes or ulterior motives.

The Coen Brothers started their screenplay by bouncing one question off of each other. They took Elijah Wald’s book on Dave Van Ronk (The Mayor fo MacDougal Street) and pondered: What would have happened if a tragic genius Folk singer made enemies with Mike Porco of Folk City instead of joining forces?

Hence, all the crappy shit that could possibly happen to a Folk Singer in 1961’s Washington Square happened to Llewyn, played by Oscar. It was a fictional tale but some of the characters were taken from REAL PEOPLE. Bob Dylan appears in the last scene where Llewyn throws in the towel.

Mike Porco had a counterpart named Poppi Corsicatta. Jim and Jean were in there by name played by Justin Timberlake and so-and-so. Jean Ritchie had a counter. The lead character had personality touches of Phil Ochs and Paul Clayton. Tom Paxton had a facsimile in the film.

They spent $11million dollars on the film, made $33mil and it became a cult favorite. The anticipation of the release really consumed us at the time.

✅ What’s long-lasting are the stories and memories hanging with Oscar at Erik Frandsen’s place, performing every Monday night at the actual Gaslight at 116 MacDougal and the show that I hosted in March of 2012.

Oscar opened for Erik. The New York film crew came. John Goodman hung out. Garrett Hedlund. Johnny Ethan came. Others…they remember. I made $770 and split it down the middle for Oscar and Erik.

Mike Porco rolled in his grave for a full year because I PAID TO GO TO MY OWN SHOWS! I took profit once. Danny Kalb and Steve Katz. Forty seats at forty dollars. Didn’t record it.

If Timmy’s mommy will allow him to come out to MacDougal Street on his own, perhaps we all can have some new updated memories of blurring the line between Hollywood and reality. If we build it, they will come!!🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼

All I can say is- LOOK AT OSCAR NOW!!!! He moved on directly to STAR WARS and a few chick-flicks. Sci-fi and espionage. He was adopted by the Scene and shall never escape. Thanks to him being willing to get his boots dirty on the street. Holla!!!!😎😎😎😎😎
